Course Objective:

In this course, we delve into the significance of scientific discoveries and their practical applications in our daily lives, spanning family, health, and employment. Understanding the fundamental principles of science is crucial for every individual, enabling informed assessments of issues concerning health, safety, and the environment. Our central aim is to equip you with a foundational understanding of science tailored to appreciate various natural phenomena encountered in daily routines and media reports. We will navigate through scientific concepts without delving into complex vocabulary or mathematics, focusing instead on core principles, the essence of scientific inquiries, the value of scientific facts, and the process of scientific discovery as a means of knowledge acquisition.

The idea behind each major advance is treated in its historical context, with special attention to its importance in mankind's understanding of the nature of the universe. Intended for nonscience majors; uses little mathematics. COS 301 is the new course number for PROV 301: Great Ideas in Science. Offered by College of Science. Limited to three attempts.
