Section Information for Spring 2020

This course teaches selected topics based on journal articles.  The selected topics are related to the Korean economy and its role in the world economy.  The format of the course will be a student-oriented teaching.  For instance, one week will be used by an instructor to introduce and discuss the logic behind the economic theory; another week will be used for student presentations to discuss the topic further.  Each student is supposed to present and discuss one paper in each topic.  A reading list will be assigned each week.  In this way, students are more involved in classroom discussions and expected to understand the topics discussed.  By the end of the semester, students are required to write a term paper, which directly gives an opportunity for undergraduate students to produce a rigorous academic paper.  Research topics can be chosen from the course materials discussed throughout the semester.  The final 1-2 weeks will be used for a small workshop in which students’ term papers will be discussed more in detail.  Any misunderstandings and potential errors can be corrected for one more week prior to the submission of a final version for a better grade.
