KORE 311 - K01: Modern Korean Lit Translation

In this overview course of modern Korean literature, students will learn the Korean culture and modern Korean history by examining their literary and cinematic representations.  Students will also have the opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities, if the Covid-19 situations allow, such as excursions to sites of cultural and historical significance, to enhance their appreciation of the literary texts as well as to deepen their understanding of Korean history and culture. 

This course satisfies the Mason Core Literature requirement. All the reading materials will be in English and no knowledge of the Korean language is expected.

Offers an overview of South Korean literature in the twentieth and twenty-first century. Examines the literary representations of modern Korean histories and investigates the origins and evolvement of modern Korean literary genres. Limited to three attempts.
