Dr. Gyu Tag Lee is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at George Mason University-Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea with a B.A. in English Language and Literature. After completing his 3-year military service in the Republic of Korea Air Force, he proceeded to the degree of M.A. also at Seoul National University in Communication. In 2013, he earned his PhD in Cultural Studies from George Mason University.
Dr. Lee published two books, The K-Pop Age and Globalization and Digitalization of Popular Music, in the second half of 2016. He also translated The Uses of Literacy and Motown: The Sound of Young America into Korean. He is an expert of popular music, media studies, globalization of culture, and Hallyu. He has been writing articles about popular music and Hallyu for a number of on- and off-line media, and is a committee member of Korean Music Awards. Also, he is a weekly panelist of KBS Radio and Arirang TV discussing Korean popular culture.
