Soyoung Kwon, Ph.D.

Dr. Soyoung Kwon, professor in global affairs, teaches global studies classes. She received her doctorate and M.Phil in social and political sciences from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, a second master’s degree from Stockholm University, and her undergraduate degree in political science and diplomacy from Ewha Women’s University.
Prof. Kwon taught and conducted her research as a research associate fellow at the East Asia Institute of the University of Cambridge and at the Asia Pacific Research Center of Stanford University, as a Shorenstein fellow. Dr. Kwon served as a Korean specialist and advisor on the EU-Korea relations at the European Parliament in Belgium and IR advisor at an International Sports Organization. Since 2008, she has had posts at an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of International Studies of Kyung Hee University, and subsequently as a lecturing professor at the Faculty of International Studies of Chonbuk National University.
Dr. Kwon is currently a research associate fellow at Yonsei Institute for North Korean Studies of
Yonsei University and a board member of the International Sports Relations Foundation. Her main areas of interest are comparative politics, international relations, North Korean studies, inter-Korean relations, peace and security n Northeast Asia, and sports for development and peace.
