World History: British Empire; modern Mediterranean; history of Cyprus

Gail Dallas Hook previously taught as Assistant Professor of History with GMU Korea and continues as Adjunct Professor for GMU Fairfax. She teaches courses in world history and is interested in the historical and modern connections between Europe, the Mediterranean, and Asia. She also teaches courses in architectural history and a popular course called "History of the Mafia in Italy and the United States." She has published articles and book reviews and presented papers on Cyprus history, the Silk Roads, British colonization, immigration, and art and architecture.

A particular focus is the history of Cyprus.  Dr. Hook's book, Protectorate Cyprus: British Imperial Power before World War I, was published in 2015. Her second book, tentatively titled Island in the Crosshairs: The History of Cyprus, is currently under review by a major university press. She continues to travel in the Mediterranean region doing research for additional publications.
