Associate Dean, Student Affairs

Originally from Cote D'Ivoire and the Cape Verde Islands, Associate Dean Yorgun Marcel joined GMU Korea in August of 2017. Prior to his current role, he worked as Director of Student Activities at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, Director of Intercultural Programs with Buena Vista University in Iowa, and most recently as assistant dean of students for international student affairs, and managing director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion at College of Wooster in Ohio.

While pursuing his bachelor's degree in the United States, Dean Marcel was an active student leader in California, where he was the first international student elected as President & CEO of the Associated Students Inc. at Cal State Dominguez Hills. After relocating to Minnesota to pursue his master's degree, Dean Marcel continued his work in student advocacy, and also became the first international student elected to serve as State Chair & CEO of the Minnesota State University Student Association.
