Dr. Steven Choi is Mayor of the City of Irvine in the United States. Prior to his current position, he also served on the Irvine City Council for eight years in two full terms. His years of public service began in 1998 when he was first elected to Irvine Unified School District Board of Education. He was the first minority or member of the Korean community to rise to this position.
Dr. Choi’s life journey in the United States began in 1968 when he was hired by the U.S. Government as a language instructor for Peace Corps volunteers. After the Peace Corps, Dr. Choi pursued his education for a Master’s and a Ph.D. Degrees in library and information science, and subsequently taught at several universities including University of Southern California and University of California, Irvine.
