Mason Korea senior Yuhyun Sihn is currently studying abroad for the first time in her life at Mason’s Fairfax campus. She also just began her Accelerated Master’s program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the Carter School.

Sihn’s experience working as a student research fellow at Mason Korea’s Peace and Conflict Studies Center Asia (PACSC Asia) motivated her to apply for the accelerated master’s program. “While working at PACSC Asia, I was able to meet many different CAR experts and scholars, which inspired me to learn more about the CAR field and explore specific subjects such as trauma healing and peace education,” she said.

Learning about the CAR field while studying in the US has also been an eye opening experience for Sihn. “In Korea, as the majority of my classmates were Korean, we naturally discussed a lot of issues focused on Korean society,” said Sihn. “Now that I’m in a much more diverse classroom setting at the Fairfax campus, I’m able to explore issues in the US more directly through students living in US society.” “It’s been fascinating to hear students share very specific stories in class—stories you never hear in the media,” she added.

Sihn looks forward to broadening her horizons while studying in the US. “I look forward to studying beyond just theories I’ve read in books with my colleagues here and gaining new experiences that I cannot have in Korea,” she said.
