Haley Grizzle, 2022

Haley Grizzle

1. What is your major/year? Where are you from?

I am Haley Grizzle. I am a sophomore majoring in global affairs with a concentration in communications in Asia. I am from Suffolk, Virginia which is a few hours away from Fairfax.

2. Why did you choose Mason Korea?

I was part of the 2019/2020 Global Gateway Group which is a freshman study abroad program. The location picked for me was Mason Korea. It aligned well with my major fortunately. Since my concentration focuses on communications in Asia, it was great that I got the opportunity to study in Asia. Being in Korea has given me a hands on opportunity to study and apply my communications lessons in the region I want to work in. Learning about Korean culture and applying it to what I am learning is way more beneficial in-country rather than in the United States.

3. How is Mason helping you achieve your future goals or dreams?

First and foremost they allow me to study abroad. I am getting a global experience early in my college years. I also got the opportunity to study in the place I want to work after graduation.

4. How has your experience at Mason Korea been so far?

Mason Korea has been a dream since the very beginning. I have loved it here every day. It’s really cool that my second semester here I got to be more hands on and work in the office of student affairs and be a part of lots of interviews and videos. Since joining the Peer Advisor Chingu program, I have participated in movie nights, trivia events, and a virtual Chuseok event. I have won prizes such as a Starbucks gift card and a Chuseok gift bag. In addition, when I arrived I was part of a K-Pop/ Korean Pop culture interview. I also did an interview for Incheon  Global Campus foundation and spoke about how beneficial IGC and Mason Korea are.

This was important because I could tell others what my experience was like. My favorite experiences so far have been dressing up in Hanbok with all of my friends and seeing the Blue House. This was fun because we got to walk around the palace and the rest of the city and visit cultural and historical sites. I also loved visiting Paradise City with all of my friends over the summer.
