[Chosun Daily] Interview with Dr. Maury Peiperl

“The ideal talent in business is the ability to see and forge connections. This requires a flexible mind and a willingness to see problems from multiple angles.”

Prior to joining George Mason University in 2017, Maury Peiperl was Director (Dean) of the Cranfield School of Management, one of the UK’s leading MBA and Executive Development institutions, also spending years as Professor of Leadership and Strategic Change at IMD in Switzerland and London Business School. Dean Peiperl says the reason he chose Mason is its education philosophy that encourages students to relate business knowledge to various other academic fields. “Mason students, who come from various backgrounds, can learn how to implement different ideas and thoughts as our focused and flexible degree programs help them become better future employees,” he says.

To become an AACSB-accredited institution, a school must undergo several evaluations and program reviews—including on-campus interviews. Schools seeking accreditation commit to ensuring that their programs, faculty, and staff adhere to the highest standards. There are only 856 AACSB-accredited business institutions and only 188 that hold dual AACSB accreditations for the school and the accounting program. Mason is in that latter group as the university holds both.

Mason is also the only AACSB-accredited institution among universities in the Incheon Global Campus.

“I can confidently say that Mason students receive world-class business degrees. Mason alumni also show the highest level of competence across various industries.”

Mason also operates a global campus in Korea. Students who graduate from Mason Korea receive the same US degree as students at the Fairfax campus. According to Dean Peiperl, Mason plans to solidify its business programs in Korea. From next spring, Mason Korea will offer a wider range of concentrations within the Business major such as Management Information Systems, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, and Marketing. A business school center is also being considered in addition to expanding internships and employment programs connected to the US campus.

Dean Peiperl believes that Mason's Incheon campus has its own benefits since Korea is an economic powerhouse in Asia. “Korea is Asia’s leading economy in various industries such as IT, manufacturing, service, education, and culture,” he said, adding, “It’s a country that has the potential to nurture talent for the 4th industrial revolution.”

Dean Peiperl plans to join Mason Korea’s info session on the 23rd and deliver a lecture titled, Business majors: Why choose a US university? “The US continues to play a leading and critical role in the global market economy. “According to a 2019 Fortune 500 Magazine, 11 of the 20 major leading multinational corporations in the world are headquartered in the US. Through continuous partnerships with leading companies such as Amazon, Mason students can build connections through our networks to land internships with leading companies and gain professional experience and knowledge.”
