Meet some of our new Spring 2021 faculty

 

Deborah KwakHyunjin Deborah Kwak
Assistant Professor of Sociology and Global Affairs

What are you going to be teaching at Mason Korea?

I'll be teaching Contemporary Gender Relations (SOCI 315), Introduction to Sociology (SOCI 101), Human Rights and Inequality (CONF 394), and Introduction to Criminal Justice (CRIM 100). 

What is your favorite part of teaching?

I love it when I see students change the way they think about an issue or a topic in my class...Or at least start the process of changing or challenging the way they think. 

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I'm proud of having developed and prepared for a new course in the criminal and restorative justice program in my previous institution.

How do you like to have fun?

I love to play tennis with my husband. I also like to watch really good documentaries on PBS and Netflix.

What are you going to be teaching at Mason Korea?

I am going to be teaching 3D game art classes in the Computer Game Design program.

What is your favorite part of teaching?

My favorite part of teaching is seeing students as they progress from struggling to mastering the material.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my collaborations with independent filmmakers and musicians on an animated short film and five music videos over the past few years.

How do you like to have fun?

I like to read and watch movies for fun.

What are you going to be teaching at Mason Korea?

I will be teaching Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics in Spring 2021.

 What is your favorite part of teaching?

My favorite part of teaching is interacting with my students.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am proudest of having taught at great schools including North Carolina State University and the College of William & Mary, and now, George Mason University Korea!

How do you like to have fun?

I love music, sports, and photography.
