Mason Korea Alumna Launches Career in PR and Marketing

Jihyo Cha graduated last fall with a BA in Global Affairs and a minor in Communications. Since discovering her passion for PR and communications during her undergraduate years, she began her first job right after graduating.

Cha is currently working at Allison+Partners, a PR & Marketing agency, where she handles promotional and marketing activities for her various clients. She works closely with her clients to strategically promote their businesses and products in line with the current times and trends. On a practical level, she writes and distributes media releases for new products, and conducts programs to directly interact with consumers.

“I can confidently say that all the activities I was involved in at Mason Korea have provided a foundation for who I am today,” she says. “I joined every activity I could possibly join while I was at Mason Korea. I became interested in public relations while interning at the Office of Admissions & Enrollment and the Office of PR & Communications. I was fascinated with the concept of promoting an institution. I learned more about media relations and promotional strategies while serving as Director of the Incheon Global Campus (IGC) Broadcasting Studio and as one of the pioneer members of Asian Boss Next (ABN), a joint project with Asian Boss, a global media platform.”

photoCha also emphasizes that the diverse environment at Mason not only broadened her perspective, but also prepared her for the global marketplace. “I became friends with people from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures at Mason’s Korea campus and Fairfax campus. I am especially thankful for my time at the Fairfax campus where I made amazing local friends and was able to explore Washington, D.C. and other parts of the US.”

As a recent alumna, Cha offers her words of wisdom to current students: “Mason Korea offers a wider variety of programs and experiences compared to regular Korean universities. There are so many opportunities to engage and learn—and not just to spruce up your resume. Check out a student organization or internship, or anything you’re able to do. Someday it will provide a strong foundation that will help pave your own path. Just give it a try! Good luck!”
