Mason Korea Faculty Give Special Sports Diplomacy Lectures

Last month, Mason Korea partnered with the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) to offer a special lecture program on sports diplomacy and an introduction to Mason Korea for students enrolled in Dream Together Master (DTM), a global sports development graduate program at Seoul National University that trains future sports leaders in the field of sports management.

Nearly 30 students from around the globe, including Indonesia, Ecuador, Brazil, as well as Korea, participated in the program. Dr. Roland Wilson, a professor of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, delivered a lecture titled "Conflict Analysis and Resolution and the Role of Sports" and led a problem-solving workshop. Dr. Soyoung Kwon, a professor of Global Affairs, lectured on "Sports a Tool for Conflict Resolution and Mediation.” The students were highly engaged during class and actively participated in group discussions.

“The students were very engaged and knowledgeable," said Dr. Wilson, adding, "They really strived to provide solutions to the problems we presented to them, and I was very happy at the level of knowledge and enthusiasm in the class today.”

“They were great students and I learned a lot from their questions and comments," said Dr. Kwon.  "It was such a great experience for me.”

Following the lecture series, the students had a chance to learn more about Mason Korea through a campus tour led by one of our student leaders, Ilya Kim.

“We live in a world where there is always conflict and how to resolve this dispute is very important," said Claudia Sofia Cardenas Mendieta (DTM 8th Batch, Ecuador). "Today's class was very important and meaningful for me because I learned that sports can be a way to resolve conflict. I want to keep what I learned today in mind and bring it to my country and teach it to others.”
