Providing Educational Opportunities to Student Athletes in Korea

Mason Korea Partners with Student-Athlete Study Abroad Agency

Last month, Mason Korea Campus Dean Dr. Robert Matz signed an MOU with Mr. Wonchan Tea of Newbie, a study abroad agency for student-athletes, to cooperate on establishing a Mason Korea soccer team that will be able to compete in the Korea Football Association.

This partnership will provide an opportunity for prospective students who engaged in competitive, organized soccer during their high school years to, not only pursue a US degree while remaining in Korea, but also remain athletes while studying at Mason Korea.

“As we move towards the establishment of this team, and the recruitment of student- athletes, it is also my hope that this team will enhance student life and engagement at Mason Korea, fuel the Patriot pride spirit here in Korea, and ultimately provide our community an opportunity to come together and rally around our team,” said Associate Dean of Student Affairs Yorgun Marcel, adding, “but maybe even more importantly, further enhance our university’s involvement with the surrounding community.”
