Mason K-Pop Experts in Korea and the US Speak at Joint Panel Discussion

The Globalization and Cultural Hybridization of K-pop

photoDr. Gyu Tag Lee, Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Mason Korea and well-known K-Pop expert in Korea, recently spoke at a joint panel called "The Globalization and Cultural Hybridization of K-pop" along with Dr. Crystal Anderson, Affiliate Faculty of Korean Studies at Mason’s US campus, as part of the Conversations at the Crossroads series.

Over 70 participants joined the dynamic online panel discussion across the two campuses. Moderated by Dr. Shannon Davis, Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs at Mason Korea, Professors Lee and Anderson discussed the history and current trends of K-Pop as well as cultural appropriation issues that have emerged with the globalization of K-Pop.  

photoConversations at the Crossroads is a joint initiative between Mason Korea and Mason’s Office of Coalition Building and Diversity Education (CBDE) to engage the Mason community in the US and South Korea in localized and global dialogue around issues of diversity, culture, racism, equity, and discrimination.
