photoFour Mason Korea faculty taught college-level Advanced Placement courses to high school students in Incheon City this fall. Professor Jihye Lim taught Introduction to Globalization, Professor Eunmee Lee taught Introduction to Communication, Professor Yingji Jin taught a Chinese language course, and Professor Roland Wilson taught Negotiation Skills: The Analysis and Resolution of International Conflicts.

Initiated by the Incheon City Educational Department and organized by the Office of Community Relations, the program offers Advanced Placement programs by universities and professional institutions across the Incheon Metropolitan area.

Four Mason Korea students also participated as teaching assistants: Heeyoung Kwon (Global Affairs), Sua Oh (Global Affairs), Jiyoon Ra (Conflict Analysis & Resolution), and Sinwoo Won (Conflict Analysis & Resolution).

“Students experienced university level class material and activities delivered solely in English, through which they could build up confidence in their international English proficiency and communication skills.” – Professor Eunmee Lee (English for Academic Purposes)

“Students broadened their understanding of globalization through the program, and I was impressed by their interest in current global issues such as the impact of COVID-19 in the world and creativity in developing ideas about their role.” – Professor Jihye Lim (Global Affairs)

“Students learned quickly and became increasingly more active in class. We started with the types of conflicts and conflict handling mechanisms, and then discovered the most typical conflicts found in schools and how to successfully mediate these difficult issues.” – Professor Roland Wilson (Conflict Analysis and Resolution)

“The students’ Chinese proficiency level exceeded my expectations. They responded to questions quickly and were highly interactive. It was a pleasure teaching high school students using the same material I teach at Mason Korea.” – Professor Yingji Jin (Modern and Classical Languages)

“I could see the students’ confidence in speaking English grow as they learned more about communication and the fact that speaking English is not all about pronunciation.” – Heeyoung Kwon (Teaching Assistant, Global Affairs)

“My most memorable moment was introducing myself in English in the first class. I was not confident in speaking English, but my confidence has grown a little bit thanks to the generous students and teachers.” – Student Participant
