Three Global Affairs Students Make an Impact at UN Offices in Korea

Dahye HanMason Korea’s location in the Songdo International Business District gives students direct access to the UN offices housed in Songdo. Three Global Affairs students have enjoyed unique experiences at  various UN offices this year.

Dahye Han (Global Affairs, ’24) participated as a panelist in the 2021 International Conference on Climate Finance & Industry held at the Songdo Convensia. “The highlight of this experience was having the chance to discuss the role of youth with many officials, including the Director of the Country Programming Division at GCF, the Head of the UNESCAP East and North Asia office, the President of Incheon institute, and many others," she said.

Seoyoon Cho (Global Affairs, ’24) joined a Youth Summer Camp hosted by the United Nations Office of Sustainable Development (UNOSD) and led a group project to emphasize the youth's role in achieving the 2030 UNSDG Agenda. Cho and her group members created a simple application about recycling and upcycling methods. They won the Design Innovation Award, which is given to only one group in the camp. “As a PPP student, I wasn’t very good at English when I first entered Mason Korea, but my professors and academic advisor gave me a lot of encouragement, which led to my joining the camp and having this wonderful experience.”

Sooyoun Kim (Global Affairs, ’23) was selected as the representative for the World Federation of United Nations Association (WFUNA) College Leader program this summer. She spent four months drafting a policy recommendation on Sustainable Development Goal 11 and presented it to UN officials. “The Career Development Center (CDC) connected me with this learning opportunity and Professors Soyoung Kwon and Jihye Lim wrote my recommendation letters,” she said, adding, “I really want to thank my professors and Sangyong Lee at the CDC for helping me prepare for this great program.”
