Stay Active and Succeed: Alumnus Gue Yong Lee Begins Graduate Program in the US

imageGue Yong Lee (Accounting, ’20), a Mason Korea alum and Advisory Board member, began his graduate program at the Thunderbird School of Global Management this year. He is currently serving on the Thunderbird Student Government body as the Career Management Center (CMC) Communication Director.

Having received an entrance scholarship that covers nearly half of his tuition, Lee is studying international business management with a concentration in digital transformation. “My goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and I am looking forward to synergizing my accounting education from Mason with the IT knowledge I gain at Thunderbird.”

Once an active undergraduate student at Mason Korea, Lee is now an active graduate student. As Director of CMC Communication on student government, Lee’s main role is to raise awareness of the CMC to students and serve as a bridge of communication between staff and students regarding career consulting.

“Do not choose graduate school because you have no other choice,” advises Lee to current students interested in pursuing graduate studies. “Try your best to find an internship first and get a taste of working with different people and environments. After getting work experience, think about where you are lacking most and then choose a graduate school that can help you grow in that area.”

Lee further advises graduate students to stay active and make connections. “If you enter graduate school with the same mindset as an undergrad, you will be doing homework and watching Netflix at home. Please be active and escape your comfort zone. To my surprise, I have had a lot of interviews with Fortune 500 companies and recently landed a graduate-level internship. This was possible only because I actively made connections with people who were willing to help me attain those opportunities.”
