Professor Hyunyoung Cho Elected to Serve on the Andrew Marvell Society Executive Committee

Mason Korea English Professor Dr. Hyunyoung Cho was recently elected to serve on the executive committee of the Andrew Marvell Society. The Andrew Marvell Society is a scholarly organization that supports and promotes research on the life, work, and times of Andrew Marvell, a famous English seventeenth-century poet and pamphleteer.

Dr. Cho has been teaching at Mason Korea since its opening in 2014 and is currently also serving as English Program Coordinator. Her area of specialty is early modern British literature (a period in England from around 1485 to 1660). Combining her research interest in migration with her experience in teaching international students, she has also worked on the issues of transnational education. Her current project examines the ideas of nature and intersections of literature and science in early modern European culture.

“I am very much honored to serve in this wonderful society, along with esteemed scholars of the field," said Dr. Cho, adding, "I am always inspired and delighted when discussing literature with college students, and I look forward to reading ‘To His Coy Mistress’ with them in my literature course in the fall.”

“As a fellow scholar of early modern literature, I am so delighted with this honor for Professor Cho and the recognitions of her contributions to the study of Marvell and seventeenth-century English literature,” said Mason Korea Campus Dean Robert Matz. “I would add, on a personal note, that I’m a big fan of Marvell’s poetry,” he added.
