Mason Korea Holds Beach Cleanup Day with U Asia Campus

Mason Korea held its second beach cleanup day over the weekend as part of its Mason Cares Program. This year, Mason Korea partnered with the University of Utah Asia Campus to host a joint event at a local beach near the Incheon International Airport.

Nearly 100 students, faculty, and staff from the two universities attended the event including Dr. Robert Matz, Mason Korea’s Campus Dean and Dr. Shannon Davis, Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs and Director of IUCF at Mason Korea.

Paris Irizarry, a senior from the Fairfax campus who is studying at Mason Korea for the second time, participated in the event. "The way our community came together to work on something as important as protecting our environment reminds me of why I chose to be a part of Mason,” he added.

“As a member of the UN Global Compact, Mason Korea has been running the Mason Cares Program to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to give back to the local community,” said Campus Dean Robert Matz. “We believe that students’ academic growth should be inseparable from a growth in their sense of responsibility to use their education to improve their communities,” he said, adding, “We say that ‘Mason impacts our students, and our students impact the world.’”
