Celebrating Mason Day In-Person After Three Years

Mason Korea Celebrates Mason Day 2022

Mason Korea celebrated Mason Day in person for the first time in three years. The event kicked off with a Celebration of Student Achievements where the Academic Affairs and University Life offices recognized students’ academic successes and university engagement on various fronts.

Nearly 400 students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate George Mason University's longest standing tradition at the Sunken Plaza of the Incheon Global Campus (IGC). Family members and IGC community members also joined in on the festivities.

For most students, this was their first Mason Day after the hiatus due to the pandemic. “I’m a sophomore and this is my first semester being on campus,” said Ejin Kim, who volunteered on the Mason Day PR committee. “Mason Day was so much fun and I finally got to experience Mason’s school spirit.” “I could tell everyone was having a great time from the photos I took that day,” she added.

Special guest performances by singer-songwriter Junny and a jazz trio were also a hit. In addition, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) held booths throughout the event to promote their organizations and host special activities.

“This year’s Mason Day was about so many things: celebrating the perseverance, achievements, and talents of our students, being able to come together as community after almost three years of the pandemic, celebrating Mason’s 50th, and finally allowing so many of our students, faculty, and staff  to experience Patriot pride firsthand here on the Korea campus,” said Yorgun Marcel, Associate Dean for University Life at Mason Korea, adding, “Our community, the world really, has been through a lot of adversity in the past few years, and this year’s Mason Day ultimately reaffirms our belief that we are stronger than ever, ready and excited for what’s to come. It’s Mason’s time!”
