This semester I’m teaching GAME101 Introduction to Game Design, GAME104 2D Design for Games and GAME 332 Story Design for Comp Games. I’m hoping to be able to create some materials regarding Extended Reality in the future though!

What is your favorite part of teaching?

Being able to work with students to bring their ideas to life and create interesting projects. Seeing students take the skills they’ve learned and moving in their own direction is so fulfilling.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Seeing my research students presenting their work and seeing the praise they received from other faculty. Also, creating one of the most successful animation conventions back in Ireland!

Coffee or tea?

Peach iced tea or lemonade, I’m not much of a hot drink person.

What’s your favorite part about being in Korea so far?

Being able to go to concerts. I’ve listened to K-Pop and Korean artists for a long time but could never go to live events until I moved here!

INYO 105: Introduction to U.S. American Cultures

What is your favorite part of teaching?

Interacting with students. They're funny, often ten steps ahead of me in their thinking and they freely share their positive energy.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Teaching in the public school system in the U.S. Public school teachers have a tough time inside the classroom and out. Yet, they are endlessly generous.

Coffee or tea?

Both. Tea in the morning and coffee after lunch.

What’s your favorite part about being in Korea so far?

Colleagues and staff are kind and welcoming. The sights and people of Songdo are beautiful.

Theresa Gielissen

Theresa GliessenWhat are you teaching at Mason Korea?

I am teaching in the MK Way. In MK Way classes, we study grammar, reading, listening, speaking, writing and academic skills. Basically, we work on all the skills students need to be successful in an American university.

What is your favorite part of teaching?

There is nothing better than watching students’ hard work pay off at the end of the semester. It makes me proud to be their teacher, but it’s even better to see students be proud of themselves!

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I love the creative side of teaching, and I am proud of the courses I’ve had the opportunity to create during my career. In Hungary, I made a technology course for teacher trainees, and in the United States, I created an English for Success course to support local immigrants.

Coffee or tea?

I like both, but coffee is a must.

What’s your favorite part about being in Korea so far?

The food is incredible, and the people have been very gracious!

This semester I am teaching two courses in Computation and Data Science, my specialty.  These are CDS 130 and CDS 501. I'm proud to be teaching the first graduate level course in Computational Science for Mason Korea's new master's degree program in the field.

What is your favorite part of teaching?

It is satisfying and rewarding to watch students grow and excel in class, and even more exhilarating knowing what they take away will eventually contribute to the progress of society.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Consummation of two spin-off IT companies with venture capital support and investment at the Chinese University of Hong Kong while I directed and managed the Technology Incubator Center that brought innovative technologies developed at the university to life.

Coffee or tea?

Both. Dark roast coffee, and tea from English Earl Grey, Chinese Oolong, to Korean Ginseng.

What’s your favorite part about being in Korea so far?

The genuine kindness and helpfulness of people here is a breath of fresh air, from the taxi driver at the airport to Keira, Sunny, and Hee Tae at Mason Korea.
