Mason Korea Student Government Meets with Incheon Mayor

Mason Korea's Student Government President and Vice President were invited to Incheon City Hall by the Incheon Mayor last week for a roundtable discussion with university students.

Mayor Yu Jeong-bok, who assumed office last July, invited student government representatives from 12 universities across Incheon for an inaugural meeting with university students. The meeting sought to enhance communication and mutual understanding between the city and students, as well as provide a platform for the students to voice their opinions and aspirations for the city.

A total of 23 student representatives, including Mason Korea Student President Hyunwoo Jo (Global Affairs, '25) and Vice President Dayeong Choi (Global Affairs, '25), engaged in candid discussions with Mayor Yu. As representatives of the student body, Jo and Choi expressed their support for Incheon's hosting the Overseas Korean Office (tentative name) and the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, while acknowledging the need for improved communication with the IGC Foundation.

“The goals and objectives of the Student Government since its inception have always been to represent and advocate for the student body’s interests," said Hyunwoo Jo adding, "our meaningful meeting with the Mayor is an extension of our engagement with the larger community of Incheon to strive for higher purposes.”

"It was an honor to attend this meeting, and I am thankful we had the opportunity to share and facilitate our student body's plans and opinions," said Dayeong Choi.

Mayor Yu expressed his appreciation for the students' opinions and their commitment to the development of Incheon, stating that he hopes to meet regularly with the students. He also stressed the importance of the younger generation's participation in the city's affairs, and that the opinions of university students would be actively reflected in the city's policies.

Meanwhile, the student representatives will partake in municipal programs such as talk shows featuring college students and government officials and student club competitions. They will also be involved in external public relations such as for Incheon's hosting of the APEC summit.
