Mason Korea Siblings from Germany Featured in the Korea Economic Daily

Johanna Suh-hee Rothe (global affairs, ’24) and Julian Suh-jin Rothe (business, ’26), a sibling duo from Germany, were recently featured in the Korea Economic Daily. Both students are directly enrolled at Mason Korea.

Johanna Rothe wanted to learn more about her mother’s native land of Korea after graduating from high school in Germany. “Mason Korea offered the perfect solution as someone who wanted to both live in Korea while receiving an international education,” she said

Her younger brother, Julian, joined her soon after. “I think he just saw how much I enjoyed going to school here,” said Johanna. “I always talked about what I was learning, and although we have completely different passions and interests, he could see that I was having a good time. We have never attended the same school, so we thought it would be fun to experience that together for once,” she added.

“A key factor in my decision to attend Mason Korea was the mandatory year of study in Fairfax, and my sister’s attendance,” said Julian Rothe, who also yearned for the international experience that was lacking in his high school years.

“It’s pretty funny watching people make the connection that we’re siblings,” said Johanna. “This includes seeing the surprised look on my professors’ faces. It’s also been fun to watch my friends enjoying getting to know my brother,” she added.

“I like that my sister is a good student because when I get one of her old professors, they’ll like me too,” says Julian jokingly.

Johanna has aspirations to be a diplomat or work for a nonprofit organization in the future. “My major in global affairs has opened my eyes to global challenges, and I feel privileged learning from my very knowledgeable and motivated professors,” she said.

Julian, who is deep into the second semester of his freshman year, is busy focusing on his studies and slowly exploring his options. For now, he is happy to be in an international setting, and in the same school as his sister.
