Mason Korea Launches Master’s Program in Computational Science

Mason Korea is launching a new Master of Science degree program in Computational Science for the Fall 2023 semester. This will be the first Master of Science (MS) program offered by Mason Korea and addresses the growing demand for trained computational scientists, engineers, and data scientists.

The MS program in Computational Science, which can be completed in a minimum of 18 months, offers a well-rounded curriculum with topics including high-performance computing, statistical modeling, predictive analytics, optimization, data visualization, database applications, and computational social science.

The program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the technologies and methodologies necessary for data-driven decision-making used by government sectors and high-technology firms.

Graduates of the MS in Computational Science have successfully landed jobs as data scientists, machine learning specialists, business analysts, statisticians, and software engineers at private companies and federal government agencies.

Mason Korea also offers a Bachelor’s to Accelerated Master’s (BAM) program in Computational and Data Science that allows students to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years. Similar to the Bachelor’s program, the BAM program provides students the opportunity to spend three years in Korea and one year in the US. BAM students have the option to study longer at the US campus.

“George Mason University has a strong tradition of top scholarship and innovation in the digital world, and just recently established a School of Computing and Institute for Digital Innovation,” said Robert Matz, Campus Dean at George Mason University Korea. “In the US, Amazon located its second headquarters in Arlington, VA, home to one of Mason’s campuses, because of the accomplished workforce in computation, many trained by Mason, in the northern Virginia area. Mason Korea will likewise create data scientists who can help drive the fourth industrial revolution in Korea.”

Meanwhile, the BS program in Computational and Data Sciences at Mason Korea has seen consistent growth in the number of new students since its launch in 2021. This spring semester had the highest number of students enrolled in the program, with a 38% increase compared to the previous year.

All Mason Korea graduates receive the same US degree as students in the US campus. The deadline for Fall 2023 applications is August 1st.
