Mason Korea Celebrates 10 Years with Kickoff Reception

Mason Korea kicked off its 10th anniversary celebrations with a lively reception featuring a first-of-its-kind collaboration between George Mason's Green Machine pep band and Mason Korea's student band, Crescent. The electric energy of the bands filled the IGC Banquet Hall with a mix of English and Korean pop hits.

The casual event brought together Mason Korea students, faculty, and staff; past leaders; visitors from George Mason's Fairfax campus; and members of the Mason Korea advisory board.

“You do not need to be told of Mason Korea’s successes because you are the reason for them—you are their engine,” said Dr. Robert Matz, Mason Korea Campus Dean. “Of course, we are also grateful for the support we have received from everyone joining us here today, including President Washington, members of the US Mason leadership, and members of our US Mason Korea advisory board,” he added.

A special highlight of the event was the recognition of Mason Korea employees who have dedicated five to ten years of service. Dr. Janette Muir, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Chair of the Mason Korea LLC Board, presented awards to five-year employees. Dean Robert Matz followed by recognizing those with six to nine years of service. Finally, President Gregory Washington recognized the ten-year employees.

Sherlin Amaya Medrano, Mason Korea Student Government President, also offered her congratulations. The celebration continues throughout the week with a series of public events
