Mason Korea Caps 10th Anniversary with Gala and Generosity

Capping a week of 10th anniversary celebrations, Mason Korea hosted a gala at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul. The exclusive event brought together university leadership, esteemed guests, faculty, staff, and students from both Korea and the US.

Guests enjoyed an evening filled with delightful entertainment, including a silent auction and performances by George Mason's award-winning Green Machine Pep Band.

George Mason University President Dr. Gregory Washington and Mason Korea Campus Dean Dr. Robert Matz opened the evening, reflecting on Mason Korea's history and outlining future plans. They also recognized Mason Korea supporters – deans, senior leadership, current leadership, advisory board members, and former leadership – who made this milestone possible. A video message featured Provost Emeritus Dr. Peter Stearns, who played a pivotal role in establishing Mason Korea.

A highlight of the evening was a generous $60,000 pledge by advisory board member Mr. Sam Machour, bringing his total commitment to student scholarships to $120,000 since 2022. Goeun Baek, a scholarship recipient, delivered an emotional speech expressing gratitude to Mr. Machour for his transformative impact on her academic journey.

The festive evening concluded with hopeful discussions about Mason Korea's next decade.
