Smart cities are a global trend, and South Korea is a leader in this field. Mason Korea is strategically located in Songdo, one of the world's most renowned smart city projects. While the definition of a smart city can vary, it generally refers to an urban area that uses technology and data to enhance quality of life.
Recently, Mason Korea's Campus Dean, Dr. Joshua Park, delivered a keynote speech at the Smart City Forum in Daejeon. The forum brought together approximately 100 professionals involved in smart city research, development, and commercialization to share innovative strategies and insights.
Dr. Park co-presented the "Smart City Strategy to Revitalize the Old Downtown of Daejeon" with Dr. Deog-Seong Oh, President of Woosong University. The presentation explored the history of urban development in Daejeon, discussed current smart city projects, and proposed strategies for implementing a platform-based smart city to revitalize the downtown area.
Daejeon, located in central South Korea, is another leading smart city in South Korea. While both Songdo and Daejeon share common features, they have distinct characteristics. Songdo is a planned city designed with smart city technologies, while Daejeon has a strong foundation in research and development.
"It's a privilege to be in Songdo, a globally recognized smart city," said Dr. Joshua Park. "I'm eager to learn more about this district and IFEZ, leveraging my 14 years of professional and residential experience in Daejeon to contribute to the field of smart cities."
