Mason Korea Campus Dean Joshua Park joined higher education leaders from across Asia at the THE Asia Universities Summit 2026 in Hong Kong, where he shared insights on the evolving landscape of transnational education (TNE) and the growing importance of global academic partnerships.
Hosted by Times Higher Education in partnership with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the summit brought together university presidents, senior administrators, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the future of higher education across the region.
Representing Mason Korea, Park participated in discussions focused on international branch campuses and the opportunities and challenges facing universities operating across borders.
During the session, Park emphasized the importance of institutional collaboration and long-term strategic planning in international education initiatives.
“Buy-in is actually much more important than folks may realize,” Park said while discussing the importance of support and alignment across university stakeholders.
He also encouraged universities to carefully evaluate their goals and institutional capacity when developing international education initiatives, asking institutions to consider “what is motivating the decision” and whether they have “the necessary capacity, both at home as well as [in] the host area.”
The summit explored topics including innovation, global partnerships, research collaboration, and university leadership, highlighting Asia’s growing influence in shaping the future of higher education.
