Nine students from Mason Korea joined more than 130 students from 13 universities across Incheon for the 3rd Incheon Inter-University Startup Academy Academy, a regional initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators.
Hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan Government and Incheon Technopark, the Startup Academy provides students with hands-on entrepreneurial experience through interdisciplinary collaboration, expert mentoring, and startup development. Participants work in diverse teams to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges facing the local community, with outstanding teams advancing to the next stages of the program.
The academy began with a three-day Startup Camp, held from July 8 to 10 at the POSCO Global R&D Center. During the camp, students collaborated to develop startup ideas focused on improving the quality of life for Incheon residents and addressing regional challenges.
Students in the general division formed joint teams with participants from other universities, while students in the club division worked with their university-based startup teams to further develop existing ideas.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mason Korea's Campus Dean Joshua Park, alongside the Mayor of Incheon and other distinguished guests, underscoring a shared commitment to supporting student innovation and strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
In his congratulatory remarks, Dean Park encouraged students to approach entrepreneurship with curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
“At George Mason, where innovation is tradition, innovation isn’t something extraordinary—it’s part of everyday life. Because you’ve embraced that mindset, I’m confident you’ll shine throughout this Startup Academy and transform your ideas into meaningful impact.”
Outstanding teams selected from the Startup Camp will advance to the second stage of the academy, where they will receive one-on-one mentoring and business development consulting from startup accelerators in the Incheon region. Their progress will be reflected in the final Startup Competition, scheduled to take place at Songdo Convensia in October.
Participation in the Startup Academy reflects Mason Korea’s commitment to experiential learning by giving students opportunities to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom while developing the leadership, collaboration, and entrepreneurial skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.
Mason Korea congratulates its participating students on completing the Startup Camp and looks forward to seeing their ideas develop into meaningful solutions for the local community and beyond.
