Associate Dean Soyoung Kwon Appointed to Incheon Defense Industry Innovation Cluster Regional Council

Mason Korea’s Associate Dean for External Affairs and Director of the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation (IUCF), Soyoung Kwon, has been appointed as a member of the Incheon Defense Industry Innovation Cluster Regional Council, launched by the Incheon Metropolitan Government on September 2nd.

The Regional Council brings together 19 experts representing industry, academia, research institutions, the military, and government. The council will support the development of Incheon’s regional defense industry ecosystem and provide expertise and guidance for the implementation of the Incheon Defense Industry Innovation Cluster.

The initiative will focus on AI-powered aviation and edge AI-based counter-drone technologies as key areas of specialization. Under a five-year plan spanning 2026 to 2030, the cluster will pursue research and development, testing and demonstration, commercialization, workforce development, and support for local companies seeking to enter the defense industry supply chain.

Kwon’s appointment reflects Mason Korea’s continued engagement with the Incheon community and its efforts to strengthen connections among academia, industry, and the public sector. Through her participation on the council, she will contribute her expertise in external affairs and industry-university collaboration to discussions surrounding the region’s emerging defense innovation ecosystem.

The appointment also aligns with Mason Korea’s broader commitment to fostering industry-academia collaboration and connecting academic expertise with opportunities for research, innovation, and regional development.
