[Campus Dean] Watch Macbeth, English Literature's Most Famous Play about Handwashing
Thursday, April 2, 2020 8:00 PM to 10:15 PM KST
RSVP NOW CLOSEDIn 2008, the famous American magician Teller teamed up with award-winning director Aaron Posner to produce a spectacular version of Shakespeare's Macbeth. The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC, has now put a high-quality video of that performance online. Watch the video with the Mason community online through video sharing and chat software, along with Campus Dean Robert Matz, a Shakespeare scholar who regularly teaches this play. He will answer any questions in an ongoing chat window.
Dean Matz saw this play when it was originally performed, and can attest that it's a great production, with great magic, and lots of bloody sword fights. He invites the Mason community to watch with him through the online synchronous video watching software twoseven, which allows viewers at individual computers to watch the same video simultaneously and synchronized. A sidebar chat allow for commenting from anyone watching.
The Folger Shakespeare Library is easily accessible from George Mason University in Fairfax. We hope that when you are studying in Fairfax you'll have the opportunity to attend a live play there. The Folger Shakespeare library houses one of the greatest collections of books from the English Renaissance in the world. It has made this video available for free to the public, in light of the stay-at-home orders that many of use are experiencing around the world.
Note: You must rsvp to the event (click on the RSVP link above) so that we know to send you the url that will allow you to watch the video.
Be sure to download the twoseven platform prior to the April 2nd event. Shortly before the event, we'll send a url that will take you to the group viewing of the video. If you have trouble installing the twoseven software, contact mksa@gmu.edu for assistance.
