Mason Korea Holds Second Annual Bike to Mason Day

Mason Korea joined the US campuses in celebrating the annual Bike to Mason Day. This is the second year that Mason Korea is joining in the celebration.

This year, the MK Green Patriots, a student-run organization, teamed up with the Mason Cares Program to host the event, which aims to promote cycling as an alternative and eco-friendly mode of transportation.

“Bike to Mason Day was an important event for our club, the MK Green Patriots, as we work to build a sustainable campus,” said Yoonseo Cho (junior, global affairs), President of MK Green Patriots. “It was fun to welcome bike commuters in the morning and cheer them up with snacks. We want to keep growing this event in the future.”

Bicycles are everywhere in Songdo, an eco-friendly smart city, which offers several bike-sharing services. Hence, bike commuting is common among Mason Korea students and employees.

“Biking is a win-win-win,” said Campus Dean Robert Matz, a bike enthusiast who can often be spotted cycling through the city of Incheon. “Good for you, good for the environment, and good for relieving traffic congestion. Also, the infrastructure for biking in Korea, such as dedicated bike paths, is excellent. I’m glad we are promoting bike commuting at Mason Korea.”

The Mason Cares Program and MK Green Patriots will be collaborating on more green initiatives throughout the year, including Beach Cleaning Day coming up in May.
