Farewell to Patrick Quinn, Mason Korea CBO

Farewell to Patrick Quinn, Mason Korea CBO

Mason Korea recently bid a fond farewell to Patrick Quinn, its Chief Business Officer (CBO) since 2021.  Quinn's last day on campus was July 16, 2023. In addition to oversight of Mason Korea's Finance and HR units, Quinn also oversaw Mason Korea's Facilities, IT, and Emergency, Health, and Safety operations.

As CBO, Quinn had many accomplishments. Among these, he spearheaded important market salary adjustments for faculty and staff, the creation of the capacity to pay salaries in US dollars, significant renovations to the Mason Korea building, and the delicate and gradual transition of the campus to normal after the most intense period of covid restrictions. He also helped Mason Korea and its students negotiate some of the financial aftershocks of covid.

Quinn was no stranger to George Mason University, having previously served as the Director of Student Fiscal Services at Mason in Fairfax, VA for 14 years.

In addition to bringing great knowledge and judgment to his work, Quinn served in the role with a deep concern for all members of the Mason community. "Pat's first question about any decision was always, 'will this choice serve our students and our mission'?," Robert Matz, Campus Dean said. "He was the opposite of the stereotype of the business officer as a numbers cruncher. He was deeply humane and a pleasure to work with," Matz added.
