Assistant Professor of Computational Data Sciences (CDS)

George Mason University, Korea, invites applications for a full-time position in Computational and Data Sciences at the assistant rank, starting in August 2021. The individual serving in this position will be responsible for teaching introductory and intermediate courses in computational and data sciences. Successful candidates will have demonstrated a background in these inter-related disciplines and excellence in teaching at the college level. Preferred candidates will have experience in teaching with R, Python, Matlab, Fortran, and MySQL, and they will have experience in teaching courses on introductory modeling, simulation, and database applications.  They will also have some experience in developing course materials.   • PhD in a relevant discipline along with an area of specialization centered on the methods of computational and data science.
  • Record of research, publication and/or grant application and activity in relevant fields.
  • Record of effective program building.

Assistant or Associate Professor of Computer Game Design (CGD)

George Mason University, Korea, invites applications for a fulltime position in Computer Game Design at the assistant or associate rank beginning Fall semester, 2021 (late August). Candidates should have expertise in game programming and development, must possess a master’s degree or equivalent professional experience and be knowledgeable about all facets of the game design field, including technical, managerial and artistic advances. Significant professional and industry experience in computer game design is a plus. They must be prepared to teach introductory and intermediate courses in computer game design, especially in the area of game programming. Competitive candidates will have a proven track record of excellence in teaching and/or industry experience. They will also demonstrate the capacity to help develop the track in game design and programming in the Computer Game Design Program.

Required Qualifications
• Experienced and knowledgeable about all facets of the game design and game programming field, including technical, managerial and artistic advances; current research (traditional and applied); and industry developments.
• Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience (minimum 5 years).
• Extensive knowledge and experience working with and teaching all primary game design, production, and management software applications, engines, and tools, as well as related hardware.
• Expertise using current professional game engines, editors and project management software.
• Knowledge of multi-platform game production and publication.
• Knowledge of C# and C++.
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Proven critical thinking, problem-solving and judgment skills.
• Ability to successfully interact with the industry business and governmental communities.
• Possesses an approach that fosters a respectful workplace environment.
• Has a demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment.

Preferred Qualifications
• Publications of major entertainment or serious games and two years of higher education teaching in the subject matter area.
• Applicable experience (minimum of five years is desired) in the industry.
• Terminal degree in game-related discipline.

Assistant Professor of Conflict Analysis and Resolution

The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution (formerly S-CAR) at George Mason University’s Korea Campus (Mason Korea), invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2021. The position is non-tenure-track with an initial term of one year, with the possibility of renewal and term promotion.  We seek applicants who are committed to dynamic and innovative undergraduate teaching, research, practice and service, and who will actively contribute to the continued development of our growing undergraduate program at Mason Korea. 

Qualifications.  The Carter School seeks applicants whose work strengthens or complements the School’s current conflict resolution course offerings at Mason Korea. We invite highly qualified applicants who have received their Ph.D. by June 2021, with a strong preference for candidates with a degree in a field relevant to conflict analysis and resolution or peace and conflict studies.

Particular attention will be given to scholars with a strong teaching record, preferably with experience in experiential learning, online learning, field-based courses, and/or the use of innovative classroom pedagogies.  Teaching will include both lower and upper-division undergraduate peace and conflict resolution courses for a diverse student body. We seek candidates with innovative scholarly approaches to peace and conflict resolution who can engage directly with contemporary conflicts through deep analysis, intervention, education, consultation and other forms of practice. 

Responsibilities.  Responsibilities for this position include teaching four courses per semester (consisting of conflict resolution core and elective courses) and developing curricula to meet the unique needs of a diverse student body at Mason Korea.  This Term Faculty position has a primary responsibility for teaching, but the candidate will have an opportunity to fully participate in the intellectual and research life of the school and enjoy potential for promotion and advancement based on successful teaching, scholarship and service.
