Faculty Positions
The Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University Korea invites applications for a full-time, open-ranked position, with a specialization in post-conflict peacebuilding, mediation, negotiation, and other conflict resolution processes. We are particularly interested in scholars whose work critically engages with bottom-up, hybrid, and localized approaches to peacebuilding, with demonstrated expertise in the Asia-Pacific region, including but not limited to Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, China-Taiwan, and South Korea.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching
- Design and deliver undergraduate courses in peace and conflict studies, including but not limited to:
- Post-conflict Reconstruction
- Justice and Reconciliation
- Mediation, Negotiation, and core Conflict Resolution Skills
- Local and hybrid Peacebuilding
- Comparative peace processes in Asia
- Contribute to curriculum development that advances locally grounded approaches to peace studies
Service and Engagement
- Contribute to the intellectual life and strategic goals of Mason Korea
- Collaborate with policy, civil society, and community-based peacebuilding actors
- Mentor junior faculty and students from diverse backgrounds
- Serve on Mason Korea committees as needed
Research and scholarly contributions are not a requirement for the position, but Mason Korea strongly encourages all faculty to participate in intellectual work. The successful candidate can secure a reduction of teaching responsibility (of one course per semester) in order to engage in research activities, such as:
- Conducting and publishing original, interdisciplinary research on peacebuilding, local ownership, and reconciliation processes
- Leading externally funded research projects and collaborate with international partners
- Contributing to the scholarly advancement of practice-relevant peace research
- Engaging in field-based research, with a strong record of work in post-war societies in Asia
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated commitment to engaged scholarship, fieldwork, and praxis
- Experience teaching and mentoring in diverse and interdisciplinary settings commensurate with rank
- Regional expertise in Asia-Pacific and a strong portfolio of international collaboration
- Proven ability to design and lead experiential learning activities that actively engage students in real-world conflict issues through participation, reflection, and student-led inquiry
Preferred Qualifications:
- A record of peer-reviewed publications
- Experience with hybrid models of peace governance and local-international peace actor dynamics
- Deep understanding of reconciliation and transitional justice from non-Western perspectives
- An ability or willingness to integrate AI and emerging technologies into peacebuilding and conflict resolution

George Mason University Korea invites applications for an Assistant Professor/Instructor of Composition position beginning August 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position.
About the Position
This is a full-time instructional position, with the expectation of teaching four courses per semester. Candidate can be hired as a Term Instructor (without a terminal degree) or Term Assistant Professor (with a terminal degree). Term faculty are eligible for multi-year contracts and promotion. This position requires in-person teaching at Mason Korea; it cannot be carried out remotely.

Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of faculty in these positions will be to teach first-year composition and/or advanced composition courses in the Mason Core (Mason’s general education program). These are tightly coordinated courses, and faculty are expected to follow the curricular approaches of the home department
at the US campus. During the first year, faculty new to teaching in Mason’s Composition program are required to teach program-designed curricula.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- MA in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or TESOL or MFA in Creative Writing
- At least two years’ experience in the last five years teaching college-level composition in a U.S. institution
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Rhetoric and Composition (or related area)
- Graduate coursework in composition pedagogy
- Experience with second language pedagogies or teaching multilingual or international students

George Mason University Korea invites applications for a position in Communication at the assistant rank starting Fall 2026. The person hired in this position will teach COMM 101: Fundamentals of Communication and other Communication courses that meet the curricular needs of Mason Korea.
About the Position

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related field
- Multiple years of experience teaching the introductory communication course (also referred to as the Basic Course)

- Ability to use campus technology tools used to teach in multiple modalities (Canvas, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Top Hat, Zoom, etc.) and quickly adapt to new technologies that might be adopted by the campus in the future
- Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership, mentoring, or coaching experience supporting others in teaching and/or building communication skills (examples: in instructional team settings, Communication Centers, coaching roles, etc.)
- Familiarity with scholarship on communication pedagogy, inclusive classroom practices, instructional communication, and communication assessment
- Experience teaching diverse students and working effectively on diverse teams
- Ability to teach in other areas at Mason Korea, including the Media, Communication, and Culture concentration in Global Affairs

George Mason University Korea invites applications for a full-time position in Computer Game Design, rank open, beginning either February 2026 (Spring semester) or August 2026 (Fall semester).
About the Position
This is a full-time, non-tenure track position for one academic year (renewable upon successful review) affiliated with the Computer Game Design BFA program. The selected candidate will be asked to teach Art and Visual Technology (AVT) courses that support the Computer Game Design program, with a preference for individuals who can teach courses focused on 2D art, such as GAME 104, GAME 320, and AVT or GAME electives in similar areas.
These courses range from introductory to intermediate levels and cover a variety of topics with a focus on game design application. Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Game Design, Animation, Illustration, Digital Art, or related field, or equivalent professional experience

- Expertise using current professional tools, software, and hardware
- Experience or ability to teach courses in New Media Art and Drawing, and one or more of the following areas: graphic design, traditional drawing, typography, sculpture, painting, photography, video art
- Proven track record of excellence in teaching and/or industry experience
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
- Proven critical thinking, problem-solving, and judgment skills.
- Possesses an approach that fosters a respectful workplace environment.
- Has a demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree (MFA, Doctorate of Art)
- 5 or more years of professional and industry experience in computer game design or digital art
- International teaching experience
- Experience creating art for game projects
