Mason Korea Announces Three New Scholarship Programs

Mason Korea Announces Three New Scholarship Programs

George Mason University Korea is pleased to announce three new scholarship programs in support of student access and learning.  The scholarships target student need, academic engagement, and contributions to campus life.  Taken together, Mason Korea will provide an additional $150,000 in scholarship funds, on top of the 10% of its annual revenues that it already spends on scholarships.

The Mason Korea Patriot Access Scholarship will be a need-based scholarship. Students will receive the scholarship at admission.  The scholarship is determined by family income and will cover the time students are studying on the Korea campus. The scholarship will be subject to a yearly review of the student’s family income to ensure that the amount provided remains appropriate.  Likewise, continuing students may apply for the scholarship if they experience a change in their family income.  All continuing students are eligible in the initial roll out of the scholarship, which will start providing new support for students for the Fall 2021 semester. The Mason Korea Student Engagement Scholarship will provide tuition support to students who assume leadership roles in registered student organizations and the Mason Korea student council.  The scholarship will be applied in those semesters during which the student remains in a qualified role. This scholarship will start providing new support for students for the Fall 2021 semester.

The Mason Korea Dean’s Merit Scholarship will provide additional tuition support to students who excel academically at Mason Korea.  It significantly increases the scholarship dollars offered by the current merit scholarship fund.  Students will be able to apply for this scholarship once a year, at the end of the spring semester.  They must have accumulated at least 30 credit hours at Mason Korea; however, these credits can be in process, as long as they are completed before the late June scholarship review. Students receive the scholarship for their entire time on the Mason Korea campus, so long as they maintain their high academic standing.  This scholarship will open for applications in Spring 2022 for use in the Fall 2022 semester.

All these scholarships are in addition to any currently awarded scholarships, including the entrance scholarship. Students must be enrolled full-time to receive them. “We’re very proud of our Mason Korea students. These scholarships will reward achievement and help to alleviate financial stress, so that students can continue to do their best,” said Robert Matz, Mason Korea's Campus Dean. “I hope that all students will inform themselves of the scholarship possibilities available to them,” he added.
