Mason Korea Campus Dean Robert Matz Interviews with Kyeongin Ilbo

Dr. Robert Matz, Campus Dean of Mason Korea, recently interviewed with the major local daily Kyeongin Ilbo about Mason Korea’s growth and continued engagement in the city of Incheon. The interview was published both in print and online.

George Mason University Korea opened at the Incheon Global Campus in Songdo International City in 2014 and has established itself as a foreign university in the region that runs various educational programs in close partnership with the Incheon community. As George Mason University marks its 50th anniversary this year, it plans to further strengthen its cooperation with the Korea campus to cultivate global talents.

"We plan to further expand our community engagement efforts in the region so that our university and Incheon can grow together," said Dean Matz, who has been serving as the Campus Dean of Mason Korea since 2019. Dean Matz is dedicated to fulfilling Mason’s mission, “Mason impacts its students, and our students impact the world” in the Incheon community. “We encourage our faculty and students to share and apply their expertise and knowledge from their research and studies to various fields,” he said.

Mason Korea faculty provide English-taught lectures and programs such as Advanced Placement programs, global leadership programs, and special communication lectures for students at local schools, including Songdo High School, Incheon Choeun High School, Daegun High School, and Neungheodae Middle School. Likewise, Mason Korea students serve as mentors in volunteer programs for underprivileged student groups in the region.

“Our Mason Cares Program brings together faculty, students, and staff to participate in volunteer activities and give back to the community,” said Dean Matz, adding, “We are also preparing to launch a new initiative to promote learning and practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion in Incheon.”
