Following an internal kickoff event, Mason Korea officially launched its public 10th anniversary celebrations with an Opening Ceremony. Over 150 guests, including members of George Mason’s US and Korea campuses, government officials, industry partners, and IGC representatives, converged at the IGC Grand Auditorium.
George Mason University President Gregory Washington addressed the audience, noting Mason Korea's impressive growth from 34 students to over 1,000. “Over these next few days, we’re not only celebrating the 10th anniversary of Mason Korea, but the tremendous impact of this campus. As noted in our Strategic Direction, Mason Korea will serve as a hub to expand George Mason’s global presence,” he added.
“Mason Korea will become an even more significant driver of Incheon’s and Korea’s development in areas such as biotechnology and our digital future,” said Mason Korea Campus Dean Robert Matz. He also emphasized Mason Korea's continued role in bridging the gap between Korea and the US by facilitating collaborative projects.
The ceremony featured congratulatory remarks from Dr. Won Sok Yun, Incheon Free Economic Zone Commissioner, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, and the US Embassy in Korea. Additionally, Mason Korea Student Government President Sherlin Amaya Medrano offered her remarks.
The Green Machine's vibrant performance capped off the Opening Ceremony, setting a celebratory tone for the rest of the 10th-anniversary festivities.
