Mason Korea recently welcomed Saskia Campbell, Executive Director of University Career Services at George Mason University, on her first visit to Songdo to strengthen cross-campus ties and share insights on career readiness.
What stood out most to her was the community and the students, “They are George Mason students. The reason that I’ve been working at Mason for the last 13 years is because of our students. They are smart, they ask great questions. They want to make a difference in the world.”
She also highlighted the work of Mason Korea’s Career Development Center (CDC), “The CDC is providing comprehensive, holistic support of students—from goal setting and clarifying career interests to connecting them with employers and helping them build confidence,” she said.
The visit opened discussions about deeper collaboration. Sangyong Lee, Director of Mason Korea’s CDC, noted, “Our students need to be aware of the resources available on both campuses and internship opportunities. One idea we’re discussing is creating a career liaison role in Fairfax—a Mason Korea student who can serve as a bridge between the two campuses.”
That bridge is especially meaningful given Mason Korea’s distinctive academic structure: undergraduates spend three years in Songdo and one year in Fairfax, earning the same U.S. degree as their peers in Virginia. Campbell pointed to resources like Handshake, LinkedIn Learning, and Interstride, a tool for international students, to help students prepare for that transition while also exploring global career opportunities.
Campbell also addressed emerging trends shaping the workplace. “Employers now expect graduates to use AI tools effectively. Students who stay curious, adaptable, and willing to take risks are the ones who will thrive,” she said.
