Section Information for Fall 2026

Human activity has improved health, longevity, and prosperity, and, at the same time, strained the natural systems we depend on through pollution, biodiversity loss, climate change, and resource depletion. EVPP 201 introduces the science of how the environment works, how it affects us, and how our choices affect it, and pairs that science with the policy questions it raises.

Topics range from ecosystems and human population to food and genetic engineering, water, pollution and climate, energy, and environmental law. Throughout, you will practice the core habit of science, careful observation, reasoned inference, and weighing evidence, using real data, cases, and places, including our own campus and the city of Songdo.
