Section Information for Spring 2026

ENGH 100 Composition for Multilingual Writers is designed for students who speak more than one language—whether English comes easily to you or you're still developing your skills. This course helps students become more effective readers and writers in academic and public settings.

Throughout the semester, students develop practical skills for tackling different kinds of writing situations. The course covers how to analyze how language works across various types of nonfiction writing, conduct meaningful research, and craft writing that responds to specific audiences and purposes. Because good writing rarely happens in one draft, the course treats research and writing as ongoing processes. Students have time to explore ideas, consider different perspectives, and refine their thinking before settling on conclusions or arguments.

One of the main goals is to help students become independent, confident writers. By the end of the semester, students learn how to find reliable sources, evaluate information critically, and bring different ideas together to answer complex questions. The course also teaches practical strategies for breaking large writing projects into manageable steps, which will serve students well in their other classes and beyond college. Students also spend time reflecting on the choices they make as writers—both in how they use language and how they approach their work.

My hope is that students leave this course feeling more confident and prepared to handle whatever writing challenges they encounter in their academic, personal, or professional life.
