The complexity and diversity of the international system gives rise to myriad security threats outside of the traditional force- and conflict-based study of international security. This course provides the tools to understand, reflect on, and critically examine broad contextual threats to global security, including: demographic change, environmental (climate change, pollution and habitat destruction) change, technological change (impact on jobs, decent work and job creation), sustainable development (keeping in mind climate change and impact on agriculture, for example), forced migration, humanitarian emergencies, and the United Nations (UN) human security approach to identify challenges and approaches to tackle these issues.Offered by Schar Govt/International Affrs.
