[Safe Zone+ Program] Part 1. Introduction to LGBTQ+ Communities (For the entire campuses)

Mason Korea invites you to the Safe Zone Program! Launched in Spring 2022, we encourage the entire Mason Korea community members to join us at our series of workshops and thus creating a friendlier and safer campus environment.

This program consists of 4 modules: (1) Introduction to LGBTQ+ Communities, (2) Awareness Module, (3) Gender Module, and (4) Ally Skills Building Module. The primary mission of Mason's Safe Zone Program is to create a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive campus environment, to strengthen community, and encourage networking among students, faculty, and staff toward the goal of supporting the well-being of LGBTQ people.

We will be providing the introduction session and the following two modules this semester.

Part 1: Introduction to LGBTQ+ Communities (Crossover - for all campuses: September 26, 8-9 PM / Zoom)

By participating in this session, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between gender and sexuality
  • Give examples of non-gendered language
  • Identify examples of allyship
Part 2: Awareness Module - recommended to take SECOND (October 17, 7-10 PM (KST) / Zoom)
 
By participating in this module, participants will be able to:
  • Describe LGBTQ+ identities
  • Give examples of LGBTQ+ cultural history
  • Apply intersectionality to their own experiences
 
Part 3: Gender Module - recommended to take THIRD (November 15, 7-10 PM (KST) / Zoom)
By participating in this module, participants will be able to:
  • Distinguish between components of gender
  • Explain the relationship between Cissexism, Racism, and Transphobia
  • Identify barriers to inclusion for trans and nonbinary people
