Come celebrate Black History Month with PAC! To highlight the importance of this month PAC will be hosting a dinner with foods rooted in African American culture along with a brief presentation detailing the origins of the food and showing Hidden Figures, a film that showcases Black leaders in the aerospace field. The event will take place on February 28th at 6PM in the Student Lounge (G409). We hope to see you there!
2월이 Black History Month라는걸 알고 계셨나요? Black History Month를 맞아 PAC가 아프리카계 미국의 문화가 담긴 맛있는 음식들을 준비했어요! 저희와 함께 음식에 담긴 문화를 알아보면서 항공 우주 분야의 흑인 리더들을 다루는 'Hidden Figures' 영화도 같이 봐요. 2월 28일 6pm, 4층 Student Lounge (G409)에서 만나요!
History about Black History Month:
Black History Month is a month to honor and celebrate Black people after years of marginalization. Black History Month was originally only a week-long celebration introduced in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a renowned Black American scholar, educator, and historian. In 1976 it became a month-long celebration. In America, Black History Month is honored during February to pay homage to Frederick Douglass, a Black abolitionist and statesman, who was born on February 14th. Across the world, Black History Month is celebrated differently from place to place. Many common traditions include gathering with food to celebrate, highlighting Black Americans in spaces they are often overlooked (music, art, entrepreneurship,etc.), and tributes to historically significant Black figures.
흑인 역사의 달에 대한 역사:
흑인 역사의 달 (Black History Month)는 흑인들이 수년간 소외를 받은 이후 흑인들을 지리고 기념하자는 의미에서 탄생한 달입니다. 원래는 1926년에 유명한 흑인 학자이자 교육자, 역사가인 Carter G. Woodson으로부터 시작되어 1주일정도 지속되는 것이었습니다. 그 후 1976년에 한달동안 기리는 행사가 되었습니다. 미국에서는 2월 14일에 태어난 흑인 노예제 폐지론자이자 정치가인 Frederick Douglass에게 경의를 표하기 위해 2월 중 기념됩니다. 흑인의 달은 국가와 장소에 따라 조금씩 다른 방식으로 축하됩니다. 그 중 가장 흔한 방법은 음식과 함께 모여 축하하는 것, 흑인들이 주로 무시당했었던 곳 (음악, 미술, 창립 등)에서 흑인들을 강조하고 축하하는 것, 그리고 역사적으로 유명하거나 중요한 흑인들에게 경의를 표하기 등이 있습니다.
