5 Minutes in Darkness
Tuesday, November 12, 2024 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM KST
Mason Korea (119 Songdomunhwa-ro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, Korea), Global Lounge
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of disability rights, especially regarding visual disabilities and accessible environments on campus.
This event provides MK members an opportunity to experience "5 minutes in the dark" by using an eye cover. This activity was motivated by many other cases in South Korea called "시각장애인 체험 (Experiencing what it is like to be a person with visual disabilities)". Participants will be asked to do certain simple actions such as finding a water bottle on the floor and picking it up, or sitting on a sofa in the Global Lounge.
What's special about this event is that it will use a technology called NaviLens, a colorful QT code for people with visual disabilities. When you scan the code with a specific NaviLens ap on smartphone, the app will read you the information put in each code. Participants have to use the codes attached in many places and complete the course that we Accessible has formulated in the Global Lounge.
To make it more interesting, it will be in a form of a competition to "set a new record" if one finishes the course faster than the previous participants. After the event, we will check top 1-3 people who completed our route the fastest and give them prizes.
