Blake Weiss

Director of Student Life

Blake Weiss, PhD., serves as Director of University Life at George Mason University Korea, where he provides strategic leadership for student involvement, student housing and residence life, student conduct, and well-being initiatives. As a member of the University Life leadership team, he works to advance student success, belonging, leadership development, and holistic well-being while supporting Mason Korea’s mission of preparing globally minded graduates in an international learning environment.

With more than a decade of experience in higher education, Dr. Weiss has held leadership roles across student affairs, student success, community engagement, strategic planning and assessment, crisis response, fundraising, and basic needs support. Prior to joining Mason Korea, he served as Director for Basic Needs at the University of Tennessee, where he led institution-wide initiatives focused on student retention, well-being, and essential resource accessibility. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with campus leaders, faculty, community partners, and public agencies to develop student-centered programs, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and address complex challenges impacting student success.

Dr. Weiss’s professional interests include student success, well-being, campus-community partnerships, fundraising, and the role of higher education institutions in fostering thriving communities. His doctoral research explored collaboration between universities and their surrounding communities, examining how institutions, local governments, and community stakeholders work together to address shared challenges and advance community development.

In addition to his administrative leadership, Dr. Weiss has presented nationally on topics including student well-being, strategic planning, assessment, fundraising, and communication. He is committed to creating inclusive and supportive environments where students are empowered to engage meaningfully, develop as globally-minded leaders, and achieve their personal and academic goals.
