Jason Kifer is a Senior Instructor of English at George Mason University Korea. He teaches Mason Core courses in academic writing in the composition program and studies how multilingual students make decisions about their own learning, particularly as generative AI reshapes what writing instruction can ask of them. His work centers on student agency, assignment design, and the ethics of AI use in the writing classroom.

Professor Kifer has taught composition, composition for multilingual writers, advanced research and writing, and academic transition courses at Mason Korea. He is a co-founder of the Mason Korea Research Writing Competition and Research Writing Workshop Series, and has chaired the Writing Competitions Committee since 2023. He has presented multiple times at George Mason Fairfax’s Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference, most recently on designing GenAI pathways that give students structured choices about how they use AI in academic writing, and he leads sessions for Mason Korea's Faculty Development Week on assessing student writing and supporting multilingual learners in the age of AI.

He came to South Korea in 2004 and has taught there ever since, first at an English academy in Incheon and later at Sungdong Global Business High School in Seoul. At Sogang University in Seoul, he taught across the English curriculum — writing, speaking, literature, debate — and coordinated the General English Education Program for foreign instructors before moving to Mason Korea in Songdo, Incheon, in 2015. His graduate work at DePaul University was in English Literature, where he also served as a graduate assistant, tutoring and training tutors in the university writing center. He is now pursuing a PhD in Education with a concentration in Higher Education at George Mason, studying generative AI, student agency, and writing pedagogy.
