Our Focus

PACSC Asia focuses on research, analysis, training, experiential learning, and practice-oriented engagement in peacebuilding, conflict transformation, leadership, and societal resilience. The Center’s distinctive strength lies in its ability to generate and share locally grounded knowledge while integrating regional perspectives with broader international scholarship and practice.

The Center seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world implementation by developing practical, evidence-based approaches to addressing contemporary societal challenges. Faculty, research fellows, students, and affiliated scholars collaborate with practitioners, policymakers, institutions, and local communities to strengthen dialogue, build capacity, and contribute to sustainable peace and stability throughout the region.

PACSC Asia also serves as an important collaborative platform connecting George Mason University Korea with the Carter School’s campuses and affiliated research centers in the United States and internationally.

Unlike many traditional research centers that primarily focus on graduate-level scholarship and faculty-led research, PACSC Asia is intentionally designed to provide undergraduate students (young scholars) with meaningful opportunities to actively participate in research, scholarship creation, experiential learning, and real-world practice from the early stages of their academic development.

The Center recognizes that the development of future leaders and scholar-practitioners requires more than classroom instruction alone. As a result, PACSC Asia integrates undergraduate students directly into appropriate research initiatives, field-based activities, conferences, simulations, policy discussions, training programs, publications, and collaborative projects alongside faculty members, practitioners, researchers, and international partners.

Through this model, students are encouraged not only to study complex societal challenges academically but also to contribute to knowledge production, applied problem-solving, public engagement, and practice-oriented initiatives with meaningful local, regional, and global relevance.

This approach reflects PACSC Asia’s broader commitment to experiential learning, mentorship, leadership development, and preparing ethically grounded, professionally capable, and globally engaged graduates equipped to navigate increasingly complex environments across government, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector.

PACSC Asia is committed to fostering meaningful engagement between academia, policymakers, practitioners, students, and the public. The Center regularly seeks to organize conferences, seminars, workshops, lectures, simulations, policy dialogues, and professional training initiatives involving internationally and regionally recognized experts.

The Center also aims to serve as a collaborative forum where scholars, practitioners, government officials, military personnel, civil society leaders, corporate representatives, and international practitioners can exchange perspectives, develop partnerships, and explore practical approaches to shared regional and global challenges.

In addition, PACSC Asia seeks to expand access to conflict resolution and leadership education through short courses, executive programs, practitioner-oriented certifications, public outreach initiatives, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities designed to strengthen long-term societal and institutional resilience.

PACSC Asia also serves as a regional hub for executive-level training, international academic and professional programs, and community-centered educational initiatives that strengthen capacity in leadership, communication, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution across diverse sectors of society.

Drawing upon interdisciplinary expertise, regional experience, and practice-oriented methodologies, the Center seeks to provide specialized programs for government officials, diplomats, educators, military personnel, corporate professionals, civil society leaders, youth organizations, and international partners. These initiatives are designed to promote practical skill development, cross-cultural understanding, collaborative problem-solving, and ethical leadership in increasingly complex local, regional, and global environments.
